Have you ever heard someone talk about going green?. What exactly does that mean? Well, going green is all about taking care of the environment around you, and finding ways to reuse things instead of throwing them out. Did you know that when you recycle, youre making something old new again? Recycled paper is put through a grinder, soaked, bleached, and rolled out into new paper. What happens to plastic? Well, plastics are recycled and remade into something totally different from what they once were. If you recycled a plastic yogurt cup, it might end up being melted into part of a floor tile. But the important thing is, its being reused and not ending up in a landfill. Were having our friends from Wondergy (www.wondergy.com) come to the mall as part of our Earth Day celebration on April 17, and theyre going to do some really interesting and fun things to teach you all about ways we can help save the Earth. Make sure you check out our page of events to find out more!

Fun Facts
The History of Mother's Day
Have you ever wondered why Mother's Day is celebrated the second Sunday of every May? Do you want to know some things you can do to make Mother's Day extra special? Read on for the answer to these questions and more.
A long time ago, in ancient Greece, the people paid tribute to Rhea, the Mother of the Gods, each spring. A little later in history, some people in England paid homage to mothers on "Mothering Sunday," the fourth Sunday of Lent (the 40-day Christian season leading up to Easter Sunday). In 1872, a woman named Julia Ward Howe suggested the idea of Mother's Day, but it was Miss Anna M. Jarvis of Philadelphia, who began a letter-writing campaign to a variety of important people, who made Mother's Day a national holiday.
Miss Jarvis was very close to her mother Mrs. Anna Reese Jarvis. When she was grown up, Anna missed her mother very much and felt that children should appreciate their mothers more. Anna hoped Mother's Day would increase respect and love, and strengthen family bonds.
In 1907 Anna persuaded her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother's Day on the 2nd Sunday of May. By the next year, 1908, Mother's Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia. In 1910, the first Mother's Day proclamation was issued by the governor of West Virginia. Oklahoma celebrated Mother's Day that year also. By 1911, every state observed Mother's Day. The Mother's Day International Association was created on December 12, 1912, with the purpose of furthering meaningful observations of Mother's Day.

Fun in the Kitchen: Healthy Kids Recipes4
Create Your Own Springtime Nature Journal!
Create your own springtime nature journal!
There are so many things you can discover outside, including materials you can use to make your own nature journal. Your nature journal will be a place to write about your outdoor activities now that the weather is warmer. Heres what youll need:
1 stick 1 rubber band A small stack of paper for each journal A sheet of card stock Scissors (get help from an adult!)
Begin by stacking your paper up, with the cover sheet on top. Fold the paper in half, to form a booklet. Then, use scissors to cut 2 small notches in the spine of the booklet. These notches will allow you to attach the stick to the spine with a rubber band.
Hook the rubber band over one end of the stick, and then push the free end of the rubber band through the notch in the spine. Stretch that end of the rubber band down across the middle of the inside of the booklet, and push it back through the lower notch. You can then hook it around the bottom end of the stick. Thats all there is to it! You now have nature journals that you can decorate and use any way you want!
Here are some ideas of things you can write in your nature journal:
Figure out what kind of animals are living in your backyard and neighborhood. Make notes when you see them. Peel a small piece of bark off of a tree. Put the bark underneath one of your pages, and rub the top of the page with a crayon. You now have bark rubbings!
Make Homemade Frozen Fruit Pops!
1 (6 oz.) can lemonade, frozen 1 (6 oz.) can orange juice, frozen 2 (6 oz.) cans water 2 cups of fresh chopped pineapple 1 cup of frozen cherries 1 small basket strawberries rinsed well 3 bananas, sliced 1/4 c. honey
Start adding ingredients in the blender. Gradually add strawberries, bananas and sugar. Blend well. Put in the freezer. After partially frozen, place in small cups with a stick. Put back in the freezer until frozen and they are ready to serve.
