Weve got so many other fun events happening in the next four months, from a mobile planetarium theater to visits with the Easter Bunny! Its shaping up to be a fun year at the mall . This is just the beginning!
Fun Facts
Stars and Constellations!
In celebration of our NASA/Kramer Domer Theater Event in January, were discussing things you can see in a planetarium dome. How about STARS!
Stars are huge balls of glowing gas in the sky. There are over 200 billion, billion stars in the universe. Thats 200,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars!
The sun is a star and the closest star to us. The next star is 25 million miles away.
The largest star would take up the space between the sun and the earth and more. Stars that big are 1,000 times larger then than the suns diameter. The small stars are smaller than the earth.
The sun is not the largest star in the solar system.
A Constellation is a group of stars visible within a particular region of the night sky. Some were named after animals and some mythological characters. Some constellations were named after scientific instruments. Constellations can be viewed after sunset and before sunrise. Also, as the earth turns you can see different constellations.
Did you know that you cant see constellations during the day because the suns light is too bright to see star light??
If you are on the equator you can view all the constellations in a year. If you are on the North or South Pole, you will only be able to see the part of the sky above you.
Enter to win a new year's surprise!
Submit entries to Customer Service by December 18, 2009.
Question:True or false: The sun is the largest star in the solar system.

Be Red Cros Ready!4

Be Red Cross Ready!

March is Red Cross Month throughout the Lehigh Valley, and at Lehigh Valley Mall! When you come out to the mall in March, youll learn all about how to get Red Cross Ready. But here are some handy tips that you can work on all year long, as a family, to prepare for any type of emergency:Home fires are the most common disaster that the Red Cross responds to and also the most preventable. Families need to take a few simple precautions to avoid tragedies, such as having working smoke alarms on every level of their homes and having family fire escape plans in place to help get everyone out of the house safely. The American Red Cross recommends the following when creating your family escape plan:
Identify two ways to escape from every room in the home.
Practice your escape plan at least twice a year.
Select a safe location away from the home where your family can meet after escaping.
Consider purchasing and storing escape ladders for rooms above ground level and make sure to learn how to use them.
If you see smoke or fire in your first escape route, use your second way out.
If you must exit through smoke, crawl low under the smoke.
Before escaping through a closed door, feel the door before opening it. If it is warm, use your second escape route. If smoke, heat or flames block both of your exit routes, stay in the room with the door closed. Place a rolled towel underneath the door. Signal for help by waving a brightly colored cloth or shining a flashlight at the window. If there is a telephone in the room, call the fire department and let them know your exact location inside the home.
Once you've escaped, stay out.
